Serial/model number missing., 05:45 PM I'm looking at purchasing an 8hp Yamaha four stroke, but the serial number/i.d. 2013 yamaha motors for the 60 and 70hp range are 3 cylinder motors but this is a 4 cylinder. The motor has a manufacturer date 11/13 The guy said it is a 80 HP, but yamaha does not make an 80HP. I also want to see exactly what motor it is. There are no signs of the plate being pryed off of the motor either. I don't have any reason to think it is but with the plate missing it makes me wonder. My first and foremost is that I want to make sure that the motor is not stolen. The engine is clean, guy has the title for everything else but he is the second owner of the motor.
The cowling does not have any horsepower numbers on it either. I am looking at a boat/motor and trailer but the motor does not have the identification label plate on it.
